# Biohackers – A Biohacking Documentary on Netflix

## About the Documentary

The German series, shot on location in student flats and lake scenes, delve into the world of self-proclaimed biohackers who manipulate their bodies in an effort to extend life spans. Monitoring their heart rate, brainwaves and erections while editing their DNA with DIY genome-editing kits (see BioNews 1011) are just some of the techniques involved. Mia’s roommates Jasper and Ole, with petri dishes in the fridge and gene-modified mushrooms in their pasta, provide welcome comic relief in this series of thrillers, while their portrayals as radical biohackers could possibly damage genuine genomics and reproductive medicine research efforts. However, this series remains thriller at heart and its depictions of science may endanger their reputations.
