Holistic Medicine and the Biofield

Every person seems to have immense potentials for self-healing that we scarcely know how to mobilize. A healthcare system that could do so would bring quality of life and new ability of functioning to many people.

Bio energy healing therapies occupy a valid, though carefully bounded, space within integrative medicine. Consistent symptom relief accompanies these approaches.

Aura

Psychics and energy healers believe that auras are fields of vital energy that surround all living things, even inanimate objects. This energy field is characterized by different colors, which can reflect a person’s health or positive or negative emotions. In some cases, it is thought that the aura can even shield a person from negative energies or spells directed at them.

It is believed that the aura can be detected by the human eye, though it cannot always be seen. For example, it is believed that when a person feels good about themselves, their aura glows more brightly. On the other hand, if a person is feeling low or stressed, their aura may look murky and cloudy. It is also believed that the aura can be felt by touching a person or object.

There are some scientists who have conducted experiments in an attempt to see the aura. They have found that some people, such as psychics, can actually see the aura of a person or object. However, this has not been proven scientifically. In fact, one experiment that involved a young girl placing her hands on a screen and asking energy healers to report whether they could feel her energy field was present or not, showed that there is no reliable way to sense the aura of someone through a screen.

The aura is believed to consist of four layers that reflect and influence a person’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The Etheric layer is closest to the body and is often described as a person’s energetic blueprint. The Astral layer is a little higher and is believed to reflect a person’s dreams and wishes. The Upper Astral layer is the last aura layer and reflects a person’s level of spirituality.

People can take steps to care for their aura, which is a crucial part of holistic healing. They can do this by engaging in activities such as meditation and tai chi. They can also seek out a holistic practitioner who specializes in energy healing and alchemic aura techniques to help them develop a deeper connection with the subtle energies around them.

Chakras

Chakras are energy centers in the body that are associated with specific emotional and physical aspects of life. They are referred to as chakras because the word means “wheel” in Sanskrit, and they could be thought of as spinning vortices or ‘intersections’ that disseminate Prana / lifeforce energy, keeping us healthy, vitalized and whole.

There are seven main chakras in the rainbow-colored system most commonly used, which arose from ancient Hindu teachings. Traditionally, each chakra was associated with a particular color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The colors are believed to represent the spectrum of vibrational energies that the human body and mind can absorb.

Working with the chakras can help bring us back into balance and to a deeper sense of our spirituality. When our chakras are balanced and the dormant Kundalini energy is awakened, we are able to tap into the power of inner peace that can change our lives for good.

The energy that flows through the chakras influences our glandular processes, the shape of our bodies, chronic physical ailments and the thoughts we have. Each chakra has a different focus, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. The first three lower chakras are associated with the physical aspect of our lives: safety, security and nourishment. The second chakra is concerned with our emotions and relationships, the third chakra is all about personal power and self-esteem, while the fourth chakra focuses on balancing the physical and the emotional, and the upper two chakras (Anahata, Vishuddha and Sahasrara) connect to higher states of consciousness, including love, forgiveness and spiritual transcendence.

The chakras are a part of our subtle energy field, and they can be balanced through various practices, such as conscious breathing, meditation, yoga and other movement, dietary changes, affirmations and the use of essential oils. The lower chakras are especially impacted by grounding activities, such as being in nature, and fluid movements like dancing or creative expression. The lower and middle chakras are also stimulated by connecting to our roots through the earth in root yoga poses, while the upper chakras respond to meditation and stillness.

Electrics

The human body, with its intricate network of cells and tissues, relies extensively on electrical signals for communication and regulation. These natural electrical phenomena, along with a host of other biologic processes on many different scales, contribute various field components to the biofield. A small but growing body of scientific evidence suggests that biofield therapies may have direct effects on living systems.

These therapeutic modalities, including Reiki, Johrei, external qi therapy and polarity healing, apparently employ the practitioner’s biofield to transmit energy to the patient. Typically, practitioners sense imbalances in the patient’s biofield and work to improve it by transmitting energy through their hands.

Unlike electromagnetic energy, which diminishes as the square of the distance, biofield energies are thought to maintain their integrity over long distances. This is why some biofield therapies incorporate distant healing, in which the practitioner and patient are separated by many miles. Although some studies have found beneficial effects of biofield treatment, the results are often inconsistent. This is due in part to the fact that different biofield practitioners have a wide range of skills and experience levels.

In addition, the conditions of the labs in which the experiments are conducted can influence the results. In one study, a portable three-axis digital gaussmeter was used to measure extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields in the hands of Reiki practitioners and healers from several different healing traditions while they were instructed to transmit a biofield. Highly significant increases in ELF frequencies were measured, and they correlated with the practitioner’s felt sense of biofield transmission.

The implications of these findings are far-reaching. Among other things, they suggest that the biofield may contain putative energies that are more subtle than those known in classical physics. Ultimately, these energies may play a key role in biological and medical processes that are currently beyond the scope of conventional science. They also raise the possibility that the human body has immense potentials for self-healing that we have barely begun to tap into, even with our most sophisticated medical tools. If this is true, a holistic approach to healthcare that integrates energy medicine with other aspects of whole-person care would be very promising indeed.

Meridians

Meridians are the pathways used to transport energy around the etheric and physical bodies. They channel energies from the chakras and aura into specific parts of our body. Meridians help support our innate healing and homeostatic functions. They also carry energy to and from the organs of our physical bodies, ensuring they have enough vitality to function properly. Like the other energy bodies, meridians can become unbalanced due to a variety of reasons. They may also have structural issues that can affect their flow.

When a meridian becomes blocked, it may result in a variety of symptoms depending on where the blockage is located and how severe it is. As a general rule, meridians tend to block up or slow down near areas where non-serving emotional energies have been accumulating over time. For example, a lot of emotions may be stored in the liver and gall bladder area, which is why this meridian can often become sluggish and reduce our energetic levels.

Acupuncturists use needle points to stimulate meridians and promote their flow. As acupuncturists experimented with different needle points, they found that certain skin areas would respond with reactions like a feeling of soreness, numbness or heaviness. These reactions are called “needle feelings,” and they follow a particular pattern along the meridian system. As a result, they were able to map the meridians.

Modern meridian testing systems allow practitioners to instantly read the energy levels of your meridians and other organs and tissues in your body. These results are then analyzed to identify imbalances and determine appropriate treatment protocols.

Meridian therapy can strengthen the immune system, reduce stress and anxiety, and enhance digestion. Stimulating the Pericardium and Liver meridians helps to alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression, while stimulating the Spleen and Stomach meridians can enhance digestion, reduce bloating, and ease digestive problems like irritable bowel syndrome.

The meridians are an important component of TCM, and it’s essential to work on your meridians daily for long-term energetic wellness. Using energy healing techniques, especially attunements, is a great way to keep your meridians healthy and ensure that any meridian blockages are cleared quickly.
