# Micro Frequency Facial Treatments and Muscle Soreness

## What are the Side Effects of Micro Frequency Therapy?

After receiving a micro current facial treatment, muscle soreness may occur similar to what would be experienced after engaging in rigorous physical activity. Although this discomfort is normal and should be managed accordingly by adhering to recommended frequency and duration.

Microcurrent current is used to tone muscles while increasing production of adenosine triphosphate within cells – biochemical messengers which initiate protein synthesis, boost energy for muscular contraction, and speed healing. While traditional galvanic or sinusoidal currents bypass cell activity altogether, low-level pulsating current of microcurrent stimulates it, leading to greater protein production and energy.

Microcurrent can help support Hugo Schulz and Rudolf Arndt’s 19th century pharmacologic principle of homeopathy: that weak stimuli accelerate physiologic activity, medium stimuli inhibit it and strong ones cease it1.1 When used properly, microcurrent supports this theory of homeopathy.1

Furthermore, sub-sensory stimulation does not produce visible muscle jolting sensations.

Notably, the results of the study were achieved through a combination of occlusal splint therapy with microcurrent. Four groups participated in this experiment with two receiving both therapies simultaneously while in two others MENS was applied through placebo simulation (placebo). Here the apparatus was turned off but conductive pads were placed over muscles without subject detection; stimulation is subsensorial.
