The term quantum healing describes practices that mix ancient wisdom and modern science. The premise is that your thoughts and attention affect your body’s energy.
Chopra’s 1989 book popularised this approach. It uses ayurvedic wisdom with the language of quantum physics. Controlled studies are few and small, physicists dispute the physics invoked, and evidence is mixed.
Deepak Chopra
Deepak Chopra is an Indian physician, New Age guru and advocate of alternative medicine. He has written more than ninety books, twenty-one of which have become New York Times bestsellers. His works focus on spirituality, holistic health and the connection between mind and body.
His theories are based on both Hindu philosophy and Western science. He studied at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences before emigrating to the United States. He is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. He has a private practice in Boston and has taught at both Tufts University and Harvard School of Medicine.
Using an ancient form of healing called Ayurveda, Chopra claims that the human body is a network of intelligence which fights disease and aging through meditation, exercise and healthy diets. He has also promoted transcendental meditation, which he says is scientifically proven to reduce stress. He has authored many books on the subject, including Ageless Body, Timeless Mind and The Art of Living.
He also claims that he can cure illness by using the same principles of quantum mechanics that physicists use to describe subatomic particles. This has been criticized by those who know physics as “quantum technobabble,” or as plausible-sounding hocus pocus.
Chopra has received several awards and accolades for his work. Esquire magazine ranked him one of the top motivational speakers in the country, and he has served as a consultant to numerous organizations. He has also been a regular guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Chopra founded the Chopra Foundation and Chopra Center for Wellbeing. He is the author of more than a dozen best-selling self-help books. He has also created a number of successful audio books and partnered with celebrities such as Madonna, Goldie Hawn and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart on a series of new-age albums. He is also the founder of Chopra Global, which produces digital content for multiple platforms. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Physicians and serves as a clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego. He is also an adjunct professor at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a senior scientist with the Gallup Organization.
Quantum Mechanics
Quantum mechanics may sound like a weird, esoteric theory, but it’s the best model that physicists have found for explaining pretty much all of the stuff in the universe. Light, electrons and even atoms are governed by this theory—along with countless other things that we’ve yet to observe. And unlike other scientific theories that have come and gone, quantum mechanics is nearly universal and incredibly accurate.
This is because the objects in the quantum world are modeled by mathematical “wave functions,” which are solutions to the Schrodinger wave equation. A wave function is a lot like a wave in the ocean or a trumpet note. Each point on the wave function corresponds to a probability that the particle will be there. The farther away a particle is from each point, the less likely it is to be there.
Another thing that sets quantum mechanics apart is that, unlike in the classical world, particle properties—such as energy or momentum—don’t have a continuous value. Instead, they have a fixed amount of energy for each state, or “quanta.” These quantum particles are confined to a particular state and can only have certain values for these properties—and the values are discrete.
The other major feature of quantum mechanics is that particles can behave both as waves and as particles. This is called wave-particle duality and it’s one of the biggest mysteries in quantum physics. It’s also an important part of the reason why quantum healing is so effective.
To understand this concept, it helps to think of a ball rolling down a playground slide. In the classical world, the ball rolls down one predictable path at a time. But in the quantum world, it can roll down multiple paths at once—until someone looks at it. Then the ball must choose one of the paths to roll down.
It’s no wonder that people are fascinated by quantum healing. But it’s important to remember that quantum healing is not a substitute for traditional medicine or healthcare. Instead, it should be seen as complementary practice that promotes overall wellness and stress management.
Mind-Body Connection
A new wave of healing is emerging that acknowledges the importance of nurturing both your mind and physical body. This holistic approach puts you in the driver’s seat of your health, recognizing that every thought and emotion affects your physical state. It also reveals the direct relationship between your consciousness and your physical body. This quantum healing method provides an energetic template that your physical body can follow, enhancing its natural ability to heal itself.
This practice connects you with a powerful force that can help you achieve your goals and heal your body. It also teaches you to engage quantum energy, so you can activate your own innate body intelligence. This will enable you to take charge of your wellness and prevent illness from taking hold in the first place.
Visualize yourself standing before a large, energetic womb-like chamber. See this as a cosmic and quantum healing womb, filled with multiversal energies pouring in from above. Begin to inhale up the left and exhale down the right, Feel this energy enter and integrate with your being at a quantum, subatomic, and cellular level.
As you inhale, notice the colors and hues pulsing into this quantum healing chamber. Invoke in even more explicit divine healing energies – if it’s the color of vibrancy, or divine wholeness, or even just divine vitality – call it in now. Feel the light bodies of your etheric, emotional, mental, and cellular levels drinking in these frequencies and healing energies.
When you’re done, visualize your cellular and light bodies radiating with this divine healing energy. Feel the energy infusing you at a deep, cellular level and connecting with your DNA.
Holistic Approach
A holistic approach to health care is a nursing philosophy that emphasizes patient-centered care, relational support, and the negotiation of healthcare needs. It also emphasizes the nurse-patient partnership and nurses’ own self-care.
Holistic healing focuses on the individual’s spiritual, mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. It recognizes that each person’s unique experience of illness and recovery is influenced by many factors, including their age, culture, family history, language, faith, lifestyle choices, relationships, and life experiences.
Traditional holistic practices include the use of foods, herbs, spices and supplements, acupuncture, massage therapy, meditation and chanting, movement, drumming and tai chi, sound or vibration, therapeutic touch, biofeedback and energy therapies. WCSU offers a concentration in Holistic and Integrative Health in its Health Promotion Studies major. This reflects the growing interest in this type of healthcare.
