Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy

Harps possess an exquisite sonic resonance, which can be captured using vibrational frequencies transmitted from embedded transducers in a vibrotactile mat. Clients lie down on it to experience soothing harp music with gentle vibrations – some have described this experience as musical massage and found relief from stress, pain and anxiety through it.

What is VAHT?

Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy (VAHT) utilizes both natural harp vibrations and vibrotactile technology for an immersive healing experience. Clients sit or lie down on a vibrotactile mat or massage table equipped with transducers that transmit these harp vibrations directly into their bodies and minds – many have reported experiencing something resembling a sonic massage while experiencing deep relaxation akin to meditation.

At first, a practitioner determines which resonance frequencies will best resonate with each individual client before playing them on harp as therapeutic improvisation, leading them through a journey to relaxation and rebalancing. Many clients report experiencing sensations of lightness, warmth, vibrating waves passing through their body as well as visions, landscapes, fractal images or dream-like experiences during each VAHT session – providing clients with unique personalized experiences while opening new frontiers of research into frequencies and body resonance.

How does VAHT work?

Harpist Sarajane Williams uses the musical vibrations from her harp to connect them with vibroacoustic devices (table, chair or pillows embedded with transducers) so as to turn your body into a resonance chamber. By finding frequencies which resonate with your unique resonance she then directs sound vibrations directly at specific areas of your body for a relaxing yet therapeutic experience, often described by clients as an inner peace journey or “sonic massage”.

VAHT sessions are safe and effective treatments that can benefit individuals of all ages, serving as a great addition to therapy or counseling services. Sessions can be customized specifically to client needs and can take as little as 20 minutes.

Benefits of VAHT

Harp music has long been used for healing and well-being promotion across numerous cultures throughout history. Its soothing soundscape and spiritual associations have proven effective at soothing anxiety, depression, pain and stress relief as well as aiding sleep disorders such as insomnia.

Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy utilizes the natural vibrations of harps by amplifying them using vibrotactile mats or chairs equipped with transducers. Clients lie down on these vibrotactile surfaces to experience musical vibrations moving gently throughout their bodies – often described by clients as feeling like “musical massage,” an experience both calming and restorative.

A session typically begins with a brief assessment and identification of resonance frequencies that resonate most strongly with each client, followed by an improvised musical performance based on those frequencies to help guide clients through a relaxing, rebalancing, and restorative experience. Many clients report experiencing deep peace and relaxation after participating in this form of therapy as well as increased hydration, blood circulation, reduced heart rate and stress levels; in addition harp therapy can serve as an end-of-life vigil or grief support using music-based grief support as well.

Harpist Sarajane Williams designed this innovative approach, which utilizes the broad sonic range and vibrational properties of the harp in combination with vibroacoustic therapy (sound-vibrational). Each VAHT session begins with assessment, frequency identification and therapeutic improvisation on the harp. Following a brief consultation period, clients lie down on vibrotactile mats, pillows or chairs equipped with transducers and experience soothing music and gentle vibrations throughout their bodies; many describe this experience as musical massage or rejuvenating restful body massage therapy; many describe this experience as musical massage while simultaneously being deeply relaxing and restorative; journey continues for an hour!
