You try a trial for about a week before deciding whether you want a long-term device.

In a clinical study, medkey bioadaptive impulse therapy showed superior results over traditional low-frequency spinal cord stimulation (SCS). Patients with back and leg pain had a higher response rate to HF10 than conventional SCS.

Physiological Effects

A device implanted in the back delivers electrical pulses to nerves and the spinal cord to block pain. The pulses are based on the patient’s individual needs and are designed to control and reduce pain. This type of therapy is used to treat chronic back and leg pain, and also can be useful for other conditions such as fibromyalgia or nerve injuries.

A recent study published in Neurosurgery compared the effectiveness of 10 kHz SCS with traditional low-frequency SCS. Researchers utilized permanent SCS leads in patients with severe chronic back and leg pain with a diagnosis of Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS). The results showed that the 10 Hz stimulation mode produced better pain relief than conventional stimulation.

Another study using a similar design compared the efficacy of the Nevro SENZA system with an industry-leading standard device. The study randomized 198 patients with back and/or leg pain to receive traditional, low-frequency SCS or a new high-frequency option with the SENZA device. Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in VAS pain scores and Oswestry Disability Index scores. However, the HF10 SCS arm achieved significantly higher responder rates.

The medkey system adjusts the intensity of the electrical pulses in real-time based on the body’s physiological responses to the stimulation. This is a feature unique to medkey and an important factor that contributes to the superior clinical outcomes.

Cognitive Effects

Researchers have developed a new device (Nervo-Stim) that automatically scans the lower back for peripheral nerve endings relevant to LBP and delivers simultaneous multipoint electrical high-intensity neurostimulation. The device uses an array of miniature probes for instant impedance scanning, identifies the nerve-related locations and focuses high-intensity pulses on these points. The pulses are shorter in duration, lower in amplitude and do not produce the paresthesia (numbness/tingling) that is associated with low-frequency spinal cord stimulation devices. According to a paper published in the April 28, 2022 online issue of Bioelectronic Medicine, the device demonstrates a clinically significant improvement of pain and disability in 95% of patients after four treatment sessions.

A small device implanted in your back sends electric pulses to nerves and the spinal cord to block pain.
