Practitioners of energy healing techniques such as Reiki claim they can restore and redirect a body’s energy supply, using brainwave retraining techniques or devices designed specifically to unblock blocked energy flows. Reiki practitioners claim they can feel changes in patients’ energy fields after each treatment session and report feeling better as a result.
Scientists have yet to duplicate these claims, and when asked for peer-reviewed studies they either refuse or become angry and respond by either refusing or becoming aggressive, saying they have been subjected to name calling. This indicates energy device practitioners are engaging in fraud: by encouraging patients to feel better they trick people into spending money on unproven therapies that don’t deliver on their promise.
