Gordon was an aviator and Navy officer who performed an abortive spacewalk for NASA in 1966, followed by orbiting the moon three years later. His photographs and hand-made books can be found in many special collections including those at Art Institute of Chicago.
He pioneered research on endocrine causes of hypertension, holding personal chairs at Greenslopes and Princess Alexandra hospitals. His rigorous protocols for diagnosing primary aldosteronism demonstrated its prevalence more frequently than previously believed and may even be curable.
