ECT and EEG Guided Resonant Therapy (MeRT)

MeRT stands in contrast to ECT in that it uses magnetic fields instead. FDA-cleared for depression treatment and currently being studied to treat PTSD and TBI, MeRT stands out as an innovative solution.

Under SEEG, your epilepsy team directs electrodes towards areas they believe seizures to begin before monitoring brain activity to detect seizure patterns.

TMS vs. MeRT

MeRT differs from TMS by using EEG to tailor a unique treatment protocol tailored specifically for you. Our clinicians utilize this personalized approach, using your EEG’s map of brainwave activity as a road map of sorts – specifically your Alpha waves activity analysis – in order to target areas in need of improved communication and function improvement. Starting with painless and quick qEEG scans that analyze Alpha waves activity levels to pinpoint any areas that may need further stimulation before also telling our clinicians which specific locations and frequencies to stimulate, making MeRT so effective.

At Brain Treatment Center Dallas, MeRT uses noninvasive neurotherapy using magnetic fields to stimulate and balance your brain function. Our FDA-cleared technology uses advanced imaging and diagnostics to customize each treatment, leading to long-term improvements. MeRT has been an incredible success at treating depression as well as other disorders like PTSD – even making an appearance on popular television show “The Broken Brain”.

MeRT has also been used in the military to treat members who have experienced traumatic brain injuries or concussions and developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Five Navy SEALS who took part in a clinical trial reported to Defense One that MeRT helped them get back on their feet following their injuries.

Though more research needs to be conducted, we believe MeRT can assist those suffering from various neurological issues. If any of the conditions listed here apply to you, call us right away so we can schedule your qEEG and MeRT session and get you feeling better faster!

MeRT may be right for you based on the results of your test and consultation with Dr. Miller, and once we know, treatment can begin for six weeks at most. At each meeting with our clinicians we’ll review how it is working and make any necessary changes; in general you should begin feeling better within one to two weeks of starting treatment!

EEG vs. EKG

ECG (electrocardiogram) and EEG (electroencephalogram) are among the most frequently performed diagnostic tests for your heart and brain, offering safe, painless evaluation of both organs. Both are safe, simple procedures with no needle prod required – yet their applications differ considerably; EEG focuses on your brain’s electrical activity shedding light on neurological conditions while EKG probes deeper into your cardiovascular rhythm to provide vital cardiovascular insights.

An ECG is one of the quickest and easiest tests available to evaluate heart health. Doctors attach electrodes to key points on your chest, arms, and legs and connect them to an ECG machine which records your heart’s electrical activity before printing out results. You may experience some minor discomfort as the electrodes adhere to your skin; in rare instances irregular heartbeat has occurred post EKG but this usually is related to exercise or medication consumption.

EEG testing can be more involved, yet remains relatively painless. Your physician will apply stickers to your chest in order to connect wires – you may feel a slight tingle as they’re removed – before recording your brain’s electrical signals through waves on a screen and interpreting these by a neurologist or trained healthcare provider to identify neurological disorders.

One of the key components to ensure optimal EEG-ECG recordings is ensuring your head implant and wires are tightly attached to your scalp. Loose implants may lead to degraded signal amplitudes, distorting recorded patterns and leading to inaccurate results. To avoid this scenario, follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations – such as washing your hair before testing and refraining from caffeine consumption prior to taking an exam.

EEG and EKG diagnostic tests can assist your physician in providing the optimal care plan for you. With appropriate training, electroneurodiagnostic technicians play an integral part of this field – learn more about this exciting career path today and start making a difference!

MeRT vs. TMS

MeRT differs from TMS by employing advanced imaging and diagnostics to tailor treatment specifically to each person. Sessions involve sitting in a chair while your doctor places a magnetic coil on your head. Once activated, this device delivers short focused bursts of electromagnetic energy that stimulate specific areas of the brain to promote communication and synchronization – ultimately leading to lasting improvement for various conditions.

MeRT treatment sessions don’t cause any pain or discomfort during their 30-minute treatments; then you are free to resume daily life as planned. MeRT sessions take place five times weekly for two weeks; thus providing 40 total treatments.

TMS has been extensively researched and approved as an effective treatment for depression. Additionally, bipolar symptoms can also be managed more effectively with TMS’ help; ongoing research into its use for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) depressive phase relief also makes TMS increasingly popular with military veterans who return from war suffering PTSD symptoms. TMS may even become popular as part of veteran care.

MeRT is an innovative non-invasive procedure that combines transcranial magnetic stimulation and qEEG brainwave recordings for customized treatment of autism spectrum disorders. Results are long-lasting and particularly effective at helping individuals cope with autism.

The qEEG data will identify any areas of your brain that are disorganized or not functioning optimally, and we’ll develop a treatment plan with MeRT to address those areas. In turn, this should make frontal regions less disruptive while improving overall brain function.

MeRT proved effective at reshaping Navy SEALS suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). MeRT could reshape their dominant brainwave frequencies back towards what would be seen in a healthy brain; similarly it can improve communication and restore synchrony within their mind when applied to autism sufferers.

MeRT has produced remarkable results for patients suffering from Autism. Our neurologist was featured on “The Doctors,” discussing this groundbreaking treatment option. You can watch that episode here. Our New Patient Coordinator can answer all your questions regarding cost, testing requirements and scheduling an initial consultation appointment to help determine if MeRT is appropriate for you or your child.

MeRT Results

MeRT is an FDA-cleared technology that utilizes magnetic stimulation to reshape brainwaves, improve cognitive health and enhance mental performance. MeRT’s noninvasive magnetic therapy treatment can safely reshape brainwaves to transform cognitive health and increase mental performance – progress can be seen and felt during therapy sessions and verified via EEG recordings.

Before beginning MeRT, patients undergo advanced diagnostic testing with qEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram). This helps identify which areas of their brains are not functioning in unison with others – helping determine which wavelengths of light to target with magnetic stimulation.

While seated comfortably, a technician attaches a flashlight-sized coil to their scalp and passes a series of bursts of current through it towards specific regions of their brains. These pulses of current are carefully calibrated according to an individual’s qEEG results; as such, each session is highly personalized instead of one-size-fits-all like traditional rTMS treatments.

MeRT uses an individualized, targeted approach to optimize neuroplasticity – the brain’s capacity for change and adaptation – which has proven especially helpful in cases of TBIs, concussions, and PTSD. A recent episode of The Broken Brain highlighted MeRT as an exciting new treatment option that’s helping veterans dealing with TBIs, PTSD, depression.

At MeRT, our team is committed to helping you realize your health goals. During your first appointment, we will take time to listen and answer any questions that arise as well as explain how MeRT works and guide you through each step of your treatment journey.

We will also provide paperwork that you can submit to your insurance provider in order to seek reimbursement; unfortunately we can’t guarantee this will happen, but we will work together towards the best possible result.

MeRT therapy can be an excellent solution for many conditions, but not for all individuals. We will conduct a detailed evaluation in order to ascertain whether this treatment option is the appropriate choice for you. Reach out now so we can arrange a meeting with our New Patient Coordinator.
