The Wave Genome Movie Review

Based on real events, this movie follows an experiment at Gordon High that spirals out of control into an oppressive cult. Although genome sequencing has revolutionized medicine by linking diseases to specific genes and offering at-home genetic tests, it has also created new forms of inequality and misinformation – issues we explore this month on Short Wave through The Wave.

What is the wave genome?

Since 2010, scientists have made major strides in understanding DNA’s workings; yet they still cannot account for 97% of our genome that consists of “junk”. Some scientists believe that electromagnetic and acoustic waves may influence this “junk” DNA, giving rise to Wave Genetics as a field of science.

Scientists have already demonstrated how scientists are harnessing DNA wave theory for practical purposes. Dr Gariaev conducted an experiment wherein he used low power laser beams to recode salamander embryo DNA with instructions that will enable its creation of healthy adult salamanders; similar techniques were also used to regenerate damaged pancreatic glands.

The amino acid sequences of WASP and WAVE proteins share high similarity across species, featuring conserved domains like the WH1/EVH1 domain and WHD/SHD domain (Figure 2). Human WASP and N-WASP belong to a clade that includes all vertebrates; similarly, there are homologs for both genes found in zebrafish; this suggests that WASP originated in an ancestral jawed fish or mammal before WAVE appeared later during development of their nervous systems.

WASP and WAVE proteins not only play an essential role in cell migration, but are also involved in other biological processes. WAVE2 has been linked with cancer progression; therefore understanding WAVE function better may aid researchers in creating novel cancer therapies.

Genomic revolution has revolutionized medicine while raising an array of ethical concerns. This month on Short Wave we explore genome testing in light of these questions; including its potential to link hereditary diseases to specific genes while raising inequality concerns and misinformation issues. Additionally, we investigate populist-authoritarian movements like cults that form police states within high schools as examples for populism-authoritarianism movements that arise as responses.

The plot

The plot of The Wave can be confusing, careening from intricate to arbitrary. Frank’s interactions with drug dealer Ronnie Gene Blevins (Ronnie Gene Blevins) and homeless guardian angel Frankie feature prominently, alongside some philosophical dialogue about how harmony must come out of chaos.

But ultimately it’s about an unscrupulous insurance lawyer bilking his clients of life insurance policies. Director Gille Klabin’s debut feature film based on Carl Lucas script does get a bit convoluted in its final act and there may be twists that don’t add up, yet ultimately delivers an impressive conclusion.

Justin Long shines as Frank, an insurance company lawyer who discovers an enormous loophole in a $4 million policy and plans to present them the following morning to the board. To commemorate this achievement, Frank agrees to go out for celebratory drinks with co-worker Jeff (Donald Faison), meeting Natalie and Theresa at a club; after taking drugs at this party raucous party sends Frank on an acid trip that warps time and space – which sets off an explosive mix of thriller and action with fantastic visuals to distract audiences from any inexact scripted scriptedness!

The characters

The Wave is an admirably bendy thriller, adeptly shifting between nightclubs, shootouts and board meetings with ease. Justin Long makes an outstanding choice as insurance company executive Frank who’s given hallucinogens at a party prior to giving an office presentation and begins experiencing hallucinogenic visions before meeting an unamused major drug dealer who acts as something of an unlikely guardian angel during this journey.

Gordon High’s experiment goes awry when Laurie, editor of their school newspaper, exposes The Wave’s extremist beliefs and its powerful influence, prompting many students to leave it but inflaming fanaticism among its most dedicated adherents.

The theme

Gille Klabin’s feature debut follows a lawyer on the edge of losing his mind as he is drawn into an oppressive cult. After its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, this psychedelic sci-fi adventure-comedy will make its digital release via Epic Pictures Group (Dread Central’s parent company) on January 17th.

Justin Long stars in the film as Frank, an insurance worker who is persuaded by peers into taking a hallucinogenic drug at a house party. When he wakes up to find that Theresa has left without him and that time travel seems possible, Frank becomes panicked while trying to grasp what’s going on around him.

The Wave is both entertaining and thought-provoking; both aspects combine in this thought-provoking tale about human nature and self-reflection. Although The Wave takes many narrative liberties, its solid performances and visual flair keep its trajectory on track; these elements also help distract from any awkward scripting issues; though less obvious endings may have added a different experience altogether, overall this ride was enjoyable nonetheless.

Overall, The Wave is an engaging and thought-provoking ride that explores some thought-provoking themes related to fascism and society as a whole. Viewers will walk away feeling satisfied with its entertainment value and will likely still be talking about it long after its conclusion. In addition, The Wave stands as an impressive example of how movies with little budget can still provide plenty of enjoyment – definitely recommended to fans of science fiction, fantasy or horror genres alike! It will sure to provide fans with hours of enjoyment!
