Lauren Walker grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts and received her initial training in art with a scholarship from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Later she majored in English and creative writing at Gallatin Division before opting out of publishing fellowship to travel the world instead and gain new experiences – first visiting New Zealand then Montana (founding first yoga studio before eventually moving back to Canada as war protestor).
She has taught yoga both domestically and abroad, written several books on it, been featured in Yoga Journal and Mantra Magazine and remains committed to healing by creating a toxic-free world and reversing global warming; while also enjoying arts, traveling, her folk band playing live performances and sculptural welding as hobbies. With all that yoga offers her passion lead her to develop Energy Medicine Yoga!
EMYoga Immune System
Lauren Walker is the creator of Energy Medicine Yoga (EMYoga), an intuitive yet simple healing method that combines her extensive studies in yoga with energy work for maximum effect. Her method uses classic yoga poses to communicate with your body’s natural intelligence – helping you heal yourself and thrive! EMYoga classes have been offered both nationally and internationally since her introduction. Yoga Journal, Mantra Magazine and Yoga Digest have featured Lauren’s methods as part of general courses or teacher trainings; recently she was honored with being named one of America’s Top 100 yoga teachers!
She founded her initial yoga studio in Northwest Montana; however, due to business dissolution and an horrific skiing accident she decided to reevaluate her life and embrace yoga as a lifestyle choice and become certified instructor. Her deep fascination with anatomy led her to study massage therapy, acupuncture and even spending time in India at an ashram studying these disciplines further.
She found that the combination of yoga and energy medicine was most effective for her in treating pain, which formed the basis for her EMYoga practice and three books written about energy medicine.
In your book, you discussed a method for releasing trauma. Could you explain more?
Rewiring how you relate to the world involves changing how you perceive it; altering any patterns of like and dislike or fear that keep you trapped in victim mode and holding onto things that no longer serve us.
EMYoga Calm
Lauren is the creator of EMYoga, an energy work method derived from yoga that harnesses two vital resources available to us all — yoga and our minds. Conceived while teaching at Norwich University – one of the oldest private military colleges in America – she developed this practice using ancient Eastern medicine’s Five Element Theory which acts like a guidepost for calming difficult emotions such as fear, anger, anxiety and worry.
TS: One thing I really admire about your approach to energy work is its adaptability; you don’t have to leave behind any yoga practice of your usual kind just to do energy work – can I assume this is correct?
After living abroad in New Zealand and working as a snowboard instructor in Montana before teaching yoga in remote regions around the globe, she opened her first yoga studio in northwest Montana before disbanding it for further travels – this journey led her on an enlightening path back into America where she now teaches both nationally and internationally.
Lauren’s work has been featured in The New York Times and Yoga Journal among others.
