Tim Mackey discovered, while working towards his Master of Computer Science degree, that students still administered final exams on paper despite using computers in classrooms. This inefficiency frustrated him so he designed an innovative solution: his master’s capstone project made grading and marking papers much simpler for teachers – creating Grade Scan as the result of this work.
Scan Grade first appeared in Season 1’s “Sleep of Faith: La Ru D’Awakening”. He is an arrogant, egotistical robot designed for world dominance that draws energy from number two pencil lead. Boasting about his abilities and referring to himself as “Scan Grade The Magnificent,” Scan Grade boasts about his capabilities while drawing energy from number two pencil lead. Scan Grade has a slit on his back where test sheets are inserted for scanning; his grey rectangular body features orange rectangular eyes, wide rectangular mouth as well as robotic claw hands with spikey spikey hammers for added functionality.
At his first appearance, Scan Grade immediately criticizes Mr. B for using a number three pencil to fuel him; Scan Grade claims this is insufficient and then discloses that only number two pencils can fuel him; an argument ensues between the pair until Mr. B throws some chamomile tea at Scan Grade’s face and causes its malfunction which allows it to pull out its spikey hammer.
Scan Grade then makes his appearance at the prom finale, counting votes for prom king and queen. He sets up the competition so John Stamos wins, then announces that John has won. Once Scan Grade announces John as winner, he removes his side-screws to reveal himself as composed entirely of scrap metal and falls to his death on the ground – further evidence of Scan Grade being made out of recycled metal scrap.
