Reverse Aging With Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), an FDA-approved therapy, has been clinically-proven to extend chromosome protective regions known as telomeres while also increasing energy levels and stimulating the brain.

Researchers found that after six months of regular HBOT treatment for healthy older adults, their telomeres lengthened and there was an overall reduction of senescent cells detected through biopsies.

Reduces Inflammation

Inflammation is an integral component of our bodies’ response to infection, but chronic inflammation can be detrimental. Chronic inflammation has been linked to conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and atherosclerosis; hyperbaric oxygen therapy offers relief by providing high concentrations of oxygen to damaged tissue areas for repair and healing. HBOT increases anti-inflammatory cytokines while decreasing pro-inflammatory oxidative stress thereby helping balance out immune systems.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), commonly referred to as HBOT, has become an indispensable treatment option for a range of illnesses ranging from decompression sickness for deep-sea divers to carbon monoxide poisoning. HBOT has also been shown to effectively slow aging by prolonging skin cell lifespan, strengthening collagen fibers and decreasing inflammatory reactions – studies show this. In one such trial involving sixty daily HBOT sessions over three months showed improvements in skin elasticity and thickness; decreased elastic fiber fragmentation; reduced elastic fiber fragmentation as well as decreased elastic fiber fragmentation as well as reduction of elastic fiber fragmentation associated with senescent cell accumulation associated with aging compared with before treatment alone.

Oxygen is essential for cell repair and maintaining the structure of our tissue, bones, joints and muscles; but as we age our ability to absorb oxygen decreases significantly leading to its degradation of these structures. This may explain why so many older people experience stiff joints with acheful pain and brittle nails and hair as well as thinning, sagging skin.

Reverse Aging Oxygen Therapy restores our natural ability to absorb oxygen, accelerate cellular repair, strengthen structures and prevent further degradation, encourage new blood vessel growth as well as lower oxidative stress levels which contribute to premature aging.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe and effective treatment option for all ages. Patients relax in a pressurized chamber while breathing 100% oxygen to stimulate the production of new cells. They may feel slightly dizzy for the first 5-7 minutes until their ears adapt to the increased pressure, but after that most feel comfortable. Patients do not require masks or hoods – often just popping their ears occasionally may help equalize pressure changes (similar to landing an airplane). There is no discomfort or pain during therapy sessions and most sessions last between 60-90 minutes per session.

Increases Collagen Production

Oxygen therapy helps enhance cellular repair and stimulates collagen and elastin production, two vital proteins for wrinkle reduction and skin elasticity enhancement. Furthermore, oxygen therapy reduces oxidative stress – an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants that leads to cell damage and accelerates aging – by providing essential oxygenation benefits.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) utilizes 100% pure oxygen delivered in a pressurized chamber to deliver 100% pure oxygen directly into the body. While its primary use may be for treating decompression sickness, thermal or radiation injuries and tissue necrosis, studies have also demonstrated its potential ability to reverse aging at a cellular level.

One study demonstrated how HBOT can lengthen telomeres, the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division and eventually lead to cell death and, ultimately, to aging and disease. Furthermore, this same research demonstrated how HBOT can clear away senescent cells – dead cells which reduce tissue remodeling speeds and promote aging – as well as reduce oxidative stress, helping increase new blood vessel formation.

HBOT can also combat aging by strengthening your immune system’s ability to fight infections and inflammatory diseases, due to increased mitochondrial function and ATP production resulting in higher energy levels within the body.

HBOT therapy can also help improve skin elasticity and increase collagen production by stimulating the body’s natural regenerative processes, as oxygen promotes healthy cell development while decreasing inflammation.

For this study, doctors collected skin biopsies from one subject who underwent 60 daily sessions of HBOT and stained them with a special dye to assess changes in elastic fiber thickness, effect size and length as well as changes in number of senescent and non-senescent cells and assess regeneration capacity – which they discovered reduced papillary dermis thickness while increasing collagen density and elastic fiber length due to HBOT treatment.

Oxygen therapy is a safe, clinically tested technique widely employed by physicians to treat wounds and soft tissue damage, but has recently gained prominence as an effective anti-aging tool that targets the true causes of aging rather than simply masking its symptoms.

Repairs Mitochondria

The mitochondria are energy-producing organelles within cells and play an essential role in oxidative stress, inflammation and aging processes. For this reason, mitochondria-targeted drugs still face many hurdles before reaching clinical use.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a promising non-pharmaceutical intervention to slow biological ageing. It does this through powerful epigenetic changes, specifically DNA methylation; DNA methylation modifies gene expression within cells; HBOT modifies these expressions through alteration patterns related to oxidative stress, DNA repair, inflammation and mitochondrial efficiency.

As researchers believe, one key to slowing aging lies in restoring normal mitochondrial function and correcting any imbalance between fission and fusion processes. Mitochondrial dysfunction leads to oxidative stress which in turn activates DAMPs and inflammasomes, contributing to chronic diseases like neurodegeneration and cancer.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy targets mitochondria to restore cellular oxygen levels. As people age, their levels of cellular oxygen decrease; by replenishing those levels with HBOT treatments, aging processes may slow and disease risks decrease significantly.

HBOT can also repair damaged mitochondria. It does this by targeting mitochondrial DNA and stimulating production of reactive oxygen species. Furthermore, HBOT increases activity of TFAM protein which controls mitochondrial fission/fusion regulation.

HBOT can also help repair mitochondrial membrane permeability, which allows more substances to enter mitochondria and aid healing and reverse aging processes.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe, proven treatment option for many health conditions. It may be combined with other forms of therapy – such as physical therapy and acupuncture – for maximum effectiveness. Before embarking on any new regimen of any sort, however, it is vital to first consult a doctor in order to assess your symptoms and determine if hyperbaric oxygen therapy would benefit you individually and recommend the most appropriate plan to ensure maximum results.

Increases Brain Function

As we age, it can become easier to notice signs of aging: skin loses elasticity, muscles become less dense, cognitive functions decline – all symptoms which could potentially be reversed with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), an innovative noninvasive therapy used by many physicians for healing after injury or surgery.

By breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, your blood and tissues become saturated with oxygen, prompting physiological changes that increase energy and stimulate your brain. Scientists have discovered that this same process reverses two key biological clocks associated with aging: shortening of the telomeres and accumulation of senescent cells.

Researchers recently conducted the first human trial demonstrating how HBOT can reverse biological aging. For three months, 81-year-old patients participated in 60 sessions over three months and experienced improvements in memory, processing speed, energy levels and blood flow within regions critical for brain functioning. The results are promising: improvements were seen across memory, processing speed and energy levels with increased blood flow to regions vital to brain function as well.

This study involved an 81-year-old patient suffering from coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure, along with mild forgetfulness relating to names. His thinking speed had also decreased significantly as did physical endurance during triathlon competitions. After 60 HBOT sessions were administered he experienced improvement in memory, thought processes, energy levels, as well as improved performance on cognitive tests as well as brain imaging studies of left supplementary motor area, right insula, and left middle frontal gyrus regions of his brain.

Though this case study shows promise, its results contain some key restrictions. Due to a small sample size and no true control group in use for evaluation of placebo effects, its findings cannot yet be taken as definitive proof that HBOT can reverse biological aging in humans. Still, it serves as an important first step toward understanding its benefits for reversing biological aging in humans.
