Radionics D7212 Quick Reference

radionics d7212

This quick reference contains all of the basic information a trained installer requires to install and troubleshoot the D7212 control/communicator panel. For detailed instructions, refer to the Operation and Installation Manual (74-06913-000). If experiencing communication problems, follow the Phone Line Trouble procedure prior to continuing; symptoms could include pressing Command 47 without receiving a response and having POPIT points display as normal but non alarming levels.

Communication

This reference provides installers with only the most basic information necessary to install and troubleshoot the D7212. It should not replace the Operation and Installation Manual (74-06913-000).

The D1202 Phone Line Switcher Module makes it possible to easily connect and monitor a second phone line. Off-board points (Command 54) can be assigned as either primary or secondary phone lines, with event logs stored separately from those held within D7212. Each event log can store up to 500 events/modifiers.

Each area can feature up to eight addressable zones that contain up to 24 detectors or sensors that can be set individually to arm or disarm. Furthermore, each zone can be programmed with its own account number for total flexibility with up to eight separate accounts being managed on one D7212 panel. Furthermore, D1255 Alpha III Command Center and D1256 Fire Command Centers offer comprehensive system control and annunciation.

The D7212 features various communication capabilities. One such is reporting power outage for all zones containing detectors or sensors, sending KEYPAD commands via RJ31 X jack, and two auxiliary outputs to connect external devices such as doorbells, sirens or chimes.

The on-board speaker alerts you of alarms and trouble conditions, while four external speakers can also be programmed to sound when an alarm, power failure or KEYPAD signal are detected by the system. Furthermore, English text appears on the panel display for easy reference while battery backup protection safeguards its internal circuitry from power loss. The D7212 comes standard with its own backup battery system to safeguard internal circuitry against failure during AC power losses.

At first power up, the D7212 displays two flashes per minute of yellow LED while its CPU verifies it has access to valid power and phone lines. After several seconds, text appears again on screen.

The D8128A Module’s green LED indicates an active connection with the D7212. You should take care in setting up all switches and connectors on this module before mounting it in its enclosure with the D7212. Doing this may make things simpler.

Alarms

D7212 control panels are equipped to monitor and display normal, fire, and smoke alarms as well as responding to system commands for resets of smoke detectors and arming and disarming of panels.

Your receiver must have modem II firmware version 6.00 or later installed and both MPU and line cards set to receive Modem II reports in order for D7212 to transmit alarms effectively.

Press [CHK AREA X], and a list of faulted points appears on your keypad. Press [NEXT] to move through and clear them all at once.

Display

The D7212 provides both local and auxiliary area displays. The system shows system events in English text on blue vacuum fluorescent displays, alerting responding agencies of alarms or trouble with built-in sounders, while connecting directly to fire command centers via four-wire serial interface.

Before making any other connections to the D5200, ensure the ground wire (terminal 10 in the bottom of the panel) is connected. A grounding rod or cold water pipe are both good choices as an earth reference and will facilitate faster communication between your panel and D5200.

If the battery voltage at connector J2 drops below 1.4A, the panel sends out restoral reports for both pt bus and SDI and activates its low battery indicator light to restore power. To regain access, simply unplug terminal 3 of any overload.

The panel can be configured for either default or customized idle text by using command 5 9. When in idle text mode, the current firmware version (7212 REV ##-##) displays for five seconds at idle text mode.
