How did it get made?
Filmed in Wyoming’s wilds, The Wave Genome tells the tale of self-absorbed insurance lawyer Frank who consumes an illicit substance to alter time and space. Although not an ideal film, its 90 minute run time makes this experience well worthwhile.
Ulrike Granogger offers groundbreaking ideas about DNA that challenge traditional biochemical paradigms. She shows how quantum physics opens doors for futuristic biotechnologies where DNA is seen more as electromagnetic and acoustic waves than as pure chemical entities.
Laser light striking biological samples produces a wave pattern which reflects back. This modulation of laser beam by DNA encodes information which can be read like an audio file or electromagnetic radio interference pattern (hologram). When transmitted over long distances, this data forms an increasingly coherent electromagnetic waveform known as a hologram.
What is the message of the movie?
Although The Wave had some flaws and an uneven plotline, I still found it enjoyable to watch. The pace felt consistent throughout Frank’s journey with time travel never getting disjointed from scene to scene. Comedy scenes provided a welcome break from more serious aspects. Psychodelic sequences were cool yet may make some viewers queasy or queasy at stomach; Justin Long is another fantastic actor capable of both comedic and dramatic roles and is the reason this film was enjoyable to watch.
The Wave is an entertaining movie that blends science fiction, thriller and comedy together for an enjoyable viewing experience. While not for everyone, The Wave should appeal to fans of psychedelic films and Justin Long.
Is the movie a good movie?
Even though this movie may not appeal to all audiences, it does contain some impressive psychedelic sequences and Justin Long gave an exceptional performance. Furthermore, it provides an eye-opening examination of society issues we should all be mindful of.
The Wave is an entertaining sci-fi movie that successfully tackles some serious concepts without becoming overly cynical or pretentious – which are common issues among other sci-fi movies in this genre.
While not the perfect film, ‘Lock Out’ is worth seeing if you enjoy science fiction films or just want to catch another outstanding performance by Justin Long.
