Energy healing techniques such as Reiki energy healing, reflexology and tapping tap into the body’s energies to bring flow, balance and harmony. Wellness professionals increasingly combine ancient energy practices with modern scientific research.
Contrary to conventional medicine, which uses symptoms as the sole indicator of any health issue, energy medicine addresses imbalances within the body’s energetic system as the cause for sickness.
2. Reiki
Reiki is an ancient hands-on energy healing technique used to promote balance among body, mind, and spirit. It’s gentle enough for use alongside conventional medical treatments while still showing significant results: decreasing stress, improving mood, supporting relaxation. Reiki therapy has become popular in hospitals and clinical settings alike.
Reiki derives its name from two Japanese words rei (universal life force) and ki (energy). Practitioners believe this energy flows through us and may become blocked or out-of-balance when we become sick or stressed.
Reiki sessions take place on a massage table while fully clothed, and involve the practitioner moving through standard Reiki hand positions beginning from your head or feet and moving gradually up or down the table. Sessions generally last 60 to 90 minutes.
3. Reflexology
Reflexology is a form of touch therapy which involves applying pressure to various points on the feet, lower legs, hands or ears. Reflexologists believe these areas correspond with specific organs or parts of the body and that applying pressure promotes healing by increasing circulation to these regions.
Reflexologists typically collect an in-depth medical history before suggesting reflexology therapy as a replacement to more traditional forms of care. Reflexology helps relieve stress, improve circulation and can alleviate pain relief.
Research supports reflexology’s effectiveness as an approach for relieving multiple sclerosis-induced itching, but there is limited data proving its effectivity against fatigue or bowel problems. Sessions typically last 30-60 minutes with clients remaining fully clothed except for shoes and socks (in order to maximize comfort); some practitioners also offer less common forms such as ear reflexology that involve applying pressure alternately between thumb and finger pressure during sessions.
9. Yoga
Yoga can increase energy levels through its ability to increase flexibility and connection to breath. Yoga may also help relieve stress and promote mental clarity while combatting fatigue with adaptogen herbs like ashwagandha and rhodiola which reduce anxiety, improve sleep and treat mood issues like irritability or fatigue.
Hindus believe that humans comprise two realities – pure consciousness (purusha) and material reality (prakriti). Yoga seeks to connect an individual with the supreme reality, merging his or her awareness into a state of samadhi or liberation. Yoga does not replace traditional medicine but rather supplements it.
10. Meditation
Meditation appears 23 times in the Bible, 19 of them occurring within Psalms. Meditation refers to an act of pleasure at receiving God’s laws or discovering more about his will and attributes.
Meditating, along with its associated words ponder and ruminate, refers to either deliberate thinking about an issue at hand or aimless daydreaming that has no discernible outcome. Some individuals use meditating as a form of relief from daily stress while simultaneously meeting unfulfillable goals that ultimately have limited value.
Research suggests that Ashwagandha could help enhance sleep quality and decrease anxiety symptoms, leading to increased energy levels. If you have an existing medical condition which may worsen with stress, consulting your healthcare professional prior to starting on Ashwagandha may also be recommended.
