It is capable of influencing minds and altering reality, as shown by the corrupted Kolibri’s control signal and Ariane’s ability to communicate with her in Nowhere. It can also be utilized by the bioresonant Replika Falke, as she is able to send an image of the island and phrases into Elster during her battle with him.
Kolibri
Kolibri is an open digital platform centered around an offline-first learning platform that makes quality education available in regions with limited Internet connectivity. It allows learners to explore a wide library of educational resources independently, while educators track and monitor student progress. It also enables learners to work with local curriculums and provides teachers with a wide range of tools to customize their education program.
The concept of Bioresonance is integral to the world and story of SIGNALIS. The phenomenon is described as a vast synchronistic phenomenon that can alter reality, create physical phenomena and influence the minds of those who perceive it. It is known to cause a strong link between the Flesh and living cells, and it has been linked with electromagnetic radiation, iridescence, and vibrations within living things. Its effects can be manipulated with the mind, and those who can manipulate it are known as bioresonants.
SIGNALIS’s main character, Replika, is a bioresonant. She can bend the will of others with her powerful telepathic abilities and use her orbs to distort reality. She can also manifest corrupted STAR shields and ARARs in combat. However, it is difficult to understand her full capabilities unless you have a deep understanding of Bioresonance.
Founded by Learning Equality, Kolibri aims to make the power of technology more inclusive and accessible to the most underserved. It uses the lessons learned from their first-generation platform, KA Lite, which brought Khan Academy’s resources offline, to create a more flexible learning tool that can be used in low-bandwidth environments. It has helped inmates earn high school equivalency diplomas in the US, boosted math scores in rural schools in Guatemala, and improved educator confidence in India.
The team behind the project has set a fundraising goal of half a million dollars to start distributions of Android tablets preloaded with Kolibri, and develop apps for Windows, OS X, and Linux. They also hope to create a repository of resources that can be used without Internet access, and support teachers with a variety of online tools for creating lesson plans, assessments, and individualized student feedback.
Julia Huang
Julia Huang is a bioresonant who shows an impressive level of control with her ability to manipulate the Flesh. Her mind-bending powers include transforming her surroundings during her boss fight, and manifesting corrupted ARARs and STAR shields. She can also transmit her thoughts to her target, which she uses to control Kolibris during her Memory ending. This process is similar to the iridescence of the Artifact and its corresponding effect on living cells. It can also be compared to Remote Viewing, a technique used by the Eusan Empire as depicted in the banned Imperial book, The King in Yellow. It is reminiscent of the Three Diamonds symbol that the Eusan Nation adopted for their own national flag.
Roswita Fong
Roswita Fong is able to use her bioresonance to manipulate people and Replikas. As demonstrated during her boss fight, she can bend the wills of weaker individuals and fathom their intentions. Additionally, she can transmit thoughts and create illusions.
She is also able to create corrupted ARARs and STAR shields with her orbs, as well as transform her spear into a sword that slashes blasts of resonant waves. Her abilities also suggest that the bioresonance process grants her a degree of mind control, something that can be confirmed through a stolen document in the Dark Apartment on the upper level of Rotfront. The document bears a blue surname seal reading “Feng” (Fong), which is the same as Roswita’s.
The ‘Dream Diary’ readables also mention that cosmic entities are able to influence/hijack/corrupt the minds of those with strong bioresonance. These cosmic entities are linked to the Kolibris, Falke, and Ariane, and their synchronic effects can be seen throughout the game. This is further supported by a note found in the diary of a Protektor staff member who was arrested on suspicion of bioresonance signalis.
