The Effects of Lessac Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy

Studies on various voice therapies have been evaluated through controlled clinical trials; however, little evidence exists as to the efficacy of individual techniques or processes thought to improve voice function.

Lessac Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy (LMRVT) emphasizes forward focus, smooth phonation and sensory awareness. Patients experience vibrations across their front face including hard palate, alveolar ridge and nasal septum – something Lessac Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy can do.

What is LMRVT?

LMRVT seeks to teach patients how to speak in an optimal, forward focus manner, moving the power of speech away from vocal folds and into neck and mouth regions. By doing so, clinicians can assist their patient avoid overusing and overworking their voice – an often leading cause of laryngeal nodules and polyps. Furthermore, vocal hygiene training ensures further injury protection and assists healing when vocal issues occur.

The therapist will begin by encouraging the patient to listen carefully to his or her own voice, to identify any problems with production such as excessive effort or an unusual sound quality. From there, they will guide them in using resonant voicing based on vibratory sensations felt along the anterior alveolar ridge. Encouragement for patients to notice how this feels is provided when necessary (Verdolini & Titze are currently researching this area of motor learning), with only verbal instructions being used when necessary (Verdolini & Titze are in preparation).

As well as emphasizing resonant voice, clinicians will also create an individualized hygiene program tailored specifically to each patient, which may include proper hydration to mitigate against phonotrauma effects and avoid shouting activities that produce significant levels of vibration and adduction within vocal folds which increase injury risks and risk of nodule formation.

Clinical experience and unpublished experimental data collected by the authors of LMRVT reveal its superiority over traditional voice therapy in healing phonotraumatic lesions and decreasing nodule formation. LMRVT’s resonant voicing approach also proves more successful than prescriptions of complete voice rest, which have been found to prolong recovery from vocal overuse while hindering full laryngeal healing.

Biomechanics

LMRVT seeks to assist patients in producing their best voice with minimal effort, by adjusting vocal fold positions and movements so as to promote healthy laryngeal mechanics and laryngeal mechanics. A crucial component of LMRVT therapy is maintaining vocal fold positions such that healthy laryngeal mechanics are maximized; the barely abducted/barely adducted position plays a vital role. Furthermore, this position reduces muscle tension and fatigue which contributes to improved voice quality as well as smoother phonation.

RVT uses experiential sensory processing and repetition of training stimuli at increasing levels of complexity to maximize its efficacy, contributing to its strong evidence base and its success in treating various voice disorders.

Once again, biomechanics of therapy is important, but also important is understanding its implementation in clinical practice. How a clinician approaches treating voice disorders has an enormous effect on the outcome of therapy; this is particularly relevant with physiologic approaches to voice therapy which assume that our bodies have the ability to restore normal or healthy patterns of function even after injury or illness has caused disorganization in its systems.

To effectively implement this form of therapy, clinicians must ensure their patient is provided with enough guidance for them to make changes in their phonation. This may involve both verbal and nonverbal instruction that reinforce the new methods of sound production. Therapists will first demonstrate what a healthy voice should sound like; then cueing patients to produce sound which matches up with what was demonstrated; until eventually patients can accurately reproduce sound which matches up with healthy voices.

The therapist will then move onto practicing both voiced and voiceless sounds at the word, phrase, and sentence levels. They will encourage their patient to focus on using resonant vocalization during these practices and notice any instances when their old, unhealthy voice returns; this will equip them with tools necessary for using their healthy voice in everyday interactions.

Learning

Resonant voice therapy is one of the many voice training techniques, teaching patients how to speak with an easy forward focus and forward phonation, shifting power away from vocal folds toward anterior laryngeal ridge, nasal cavity, uvula, teeth, lips – helping prevent tension, muscle spasms and vocal fold nodules.

Verdolini Abbott developed this technique in the early 2000s and named it Lessac Madsen resonant voice therapy after two of her mentors: Arthur Lessac and Mark Madsen. Her treatment relies on principles from kinesensics, motor learning and voice biomechanics as well as conducting research.

Studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Resonant Voice Therapy for treating various disorders, such as voice-related handicap. Most studies conducted thus far were small-scale uncontrolled observational investigations with limited samples or specific populations; more evidence must be generated through large-scale randomised controlled trials to further establish its efficacy.

Compliance

As with other resonant voice therapies, patient compliance with home practice regimens is of utmost importance for effective voice therapy. Multiple factors contribute to this challenge, such as vocal targets being intangible and thus demoralizing; also required is extrinsic feedback on performance which motivates goal adherence while aiding motor skill acquisition9. It has long been demonstrated that concretely measurable goal attainment provides more incentive than non-measurable objectives, leading to greater self-efficacy for continuing effort despite obstacles (Keller & Hodge 2003).

LMRVT addresses these concerns by offering a therapy structure with concrete goals, measurable outcomes and immediate rewards through loud speech production. Furthermore, each hygiene program is customized specifically for each patient to emphasize aspects relevant to daily living rather than providing generic list of do’s and don’ts which may not be motivational enough for individual patients.

Finally, clinicians provide guidance in goal setting and replicating clinical outcome measures in home practice. Furthermore, an iOS app that displays cepstral peak prominence (CPP) data has shown great promise in motivating patients to conduct resonant voice practice at home10.10

How to Install a Radionics D2112/D2112E Keypad

The D2112/D2112E Control/Communicator and D202 keypad come packaged together in a metal housing. Mount the enclosure so you have easy access to both units.

Auxiliary Power Terminal 9 supplies 350mA at 10.2 to 13.9 VDC for keypads and other powered devices. Please refer to Radionics Technogram: Smoke Detectors Compatible with D2112 (73-07115-000).

Programming

The D2112 is a self-contained control/communicator featuring 8 hardwire on-board zones, expandable up to 24 points through point expansion, and supporting up to 16 users with arm/disarm codes. It uses standard phone dialing but can also be programmed for pulse or DTMF dialing; Underwriters Laboratories has listed it as suitable signal system control unit for use with NFPA 72 Household Fire Warning Equipment installations.

This panel comes equipped with a D202 keypad. A D5200 Programmer or another keypad may be used to program the D2112. Please refer to the POINT CODES Group in the D2112/D2112E Program Entry Guide for details regarding programming options and instructions.

Connecting a Keyswitch

You may connect up to one momentary contact keyswitch as an arming station on the D2112. For best results, this should be connected to one of the point sensor loops (points 2-6 only; do not connect terminals 7 and 8). External relay outputs or D133 Relay Modules may be used as appropriate to activate arming status lights on the keypad for this purpose – for more information see RELAYS section of D2112/D2112E Program Guide.

Auxiliary Power

The D2112 provides positive (+) voltage to detection devices through terminals 10 and 13. For alarm output, connect a D8132 Relay Module whose common has been connected to both keypads’ commons as well as D2112’s common. This ensures all devices share power equally.

Note: Terminal 6 always provides power. You can use this terminal for compatible alarm horns, siren drivers and piezo fire sounders that work with the D2112. Point 1 on the D2112 is a powered and monitored point, where its panel keeps tabs on normal, shorted and open conditions and responds accordingly.

Lock the Standby Switch before beginning programming, and unlock it when finished to send a RE-BOOT report over to your phone line and disarm the panel.

Communication Failure

Assuming you don’t use wireless keypads, the D2112 Control/Communicator connects to the telephone network through either RJ38X or RJ31X jacks and can connect multiple devices – keypads and remote programmer included – via an RJ38X/RJ31X plug. Should your usage exceed your maximum Ringer Equivalence Number (REN), its panel may not ring when calls arrive – contact your phone provider to find out what limit applies in your area.

Communication Failure

If the D2112 cannot connect to its phone receiver after five attempts, it enters communication failure mode and deletes any stored reports and flashes the OK light intermittently until communication resumes; pressing the Clear key silences any tones that have been generated during that period; when communication resumes normally again, its steady state OK light returns. For instructions on programming points used with keyswitches please see the POINT CODES group of the D2112/D2112E Program Entry Guide.

Terminal 9 To maintain reliable operation of D2112 systems and keypads connected to its auxiliary power outputs, including keypads, the current draw must not exceed 350mA at 10.2 to 13.9 VDC. A short on Terminal 9 within five feet from the panel prevents proper functioning; for additional auxiliary power outputs use external relay outputs or D133 Relay Modules.

Alarm Power Terminal 7

The D2112/D2112E program’s alarm power output, configured as desired, supplies a fixed 1.5A at 10.2 to 13.9 VDC and can support two-wire smoke and glass break detectors, bell or siren drivers, keypads and other devices as desired.

Auxiliary Power and Bell Circuit Protection

The D2112/D2112E offers circuit protection for its auxiliary and alarm power outputs. If either output circuit shorts to ground, then either timeout expires or you perform a panel reset; similarly if an alarm output shorts to ground while an auxiliary output is active, a trouble alarm is generated; to reduce these problems using larger batteries as your standby source can help significantly.

Ground Start

Auxiliary Power Positive provides 350mA at 10.2 to 13.9 VDC to keypads and relay outputs, as well as approved two wire smoke/glass break detectors connected to Point 1. For programming instructions please see POINT CODES in the D2112/D2112E Program Entry Guide.

Keyswitch Arming Station

Connect a momentary contact keyswitch (points 2-6 only; do not use points 7 and 8 for this application) to the point sensor loop and operate it to short and restore circuit, toggle On/Off panel status lights accordingly and arm points at random using this momentary contact keyswitch. Points which were armd will activate arming status lights on the D2112/D2112E Programmed Manual).

Ground Start

Connect the 0V reference to terminal 9 on the D2112/D2112E to prevent excessive current flow on the point battery and heavy discharge. Use a polarized plug or connector when making this connection.

Installation Sheets Each keypad comes equipped with installation sheets containing mounting instructions. Follow them carefully when setting up and wiring all detectors, keypads, indicating devices (bells, sirens and strobes), detection devices and keypads at their desired locations across your premises; do not connect anything else until this step has been completed successfully.

Keypads

The D2112/D2112E supports up to four radionics D202 keypads. Wire each keypad parallel according to its installation sheet. Connect it directly to its location on the panel but wait to connect any additional or alarm power outputs until all related wiring has been completed and locked off by using the Standby Switch.

Panel

The D2112/D2112E requires a 7.0Ah, 12 VDC standby battery for fire and combined fire/burglary systems. We suggest you test this regularly by running the User System Test provided in the D2112/D2112E Programming Manual.

Battery Replacement

As it’s common to have an alarm system installed when purchasing a home, find out what model keypad(s) connect to its control panel. One method would be removing one from the wall and looking at its back for information regarding which control panel model corresponds with it; or alternatively search Google images with “keypad” and your panel model to bring up photos that you can compare against your keypads to help identify their model number(s).

Before installing any detectors or indicating devices (bells, sirens or strobes), first ensure the Standby Switch is secured – this is to prevent accidental disconnection from the system and will allow you to move forward with installation. After making this connection, installation can continue as usual.

Start by installing the D202 Keypad, detectors and indicating devices in that order. Wire each of the D202 keypads together as instructed on their diagrams before connecting all wires to five feet of 22 AWG copper wire for connectivity with the panel. For more details on connecting keypads to panels please refer to their installation sheets included with each product.

Note: The D2112 is intended to operate with two auxiliary and one alarm power outputs, with terminals 6 and 7 providing maximum 1.5A output current. To increase backup battery capacity for your D2112, larger batteries of 7 Ah or more should be used.

To minimize damage from electrical overload, the D2112 includes circuit protection for both its auxiliary and alarm outputs. Two self-resetting protection devices protect these outputs against short circuits while a fuse provides bell circuit protection for D2112 alarm power outputs. When used with its alarm output terminals 6 and 7, or when an alarm output fuse opens while its bell rings out. A trouble Point 99 report will be generated if there is an incident such as shorting at terminal 6 or 7.

Pyotr Gariaev

Gariaev‘s concepts center around awareness, its role in shaping reality and its significance for human experience – specifically the DNA Phantom Effect as one example. His background

Pyotr Gariaev was born in Perm, Russia. After graduating high school he enrolled at Perm State University to study Biology before being asked to transfer to Moscow State University to continue his studies; where he eventually specialized in molecular biology before earning his doctorate degree and publishing in numerous respected academic journals and attending conferences globally.

He has made numerous breakthrough discoveries that go against conventional scientific beliefs. One of his more significant findings involved using sound waves to alter living organisms’ DNA – this could revolutionise genetics and lead to innovative therapies for various diseases. Although his work has been met with criticism by peers, he remains determined to continue researching his field.

Gariaev‘s work has opened the way to an entirely new field of science: Linguistic Wave Genetics. His research has demonstrated how DNA can be altered with sounds to produce extraordinary healing and longevity benefits; even using his technique to successfully heal cancer patients!

His research has resulted in many astounding findings. He discovered that “junk DNA” can contain useful biological information. Additionally, DNA communicates with its surroundings allowing him to gain new insight into how life came to exist on our planet.

He claims that our ancestors did not originate as random mutations but rather were encoded with instructions to create their species. Furthermore, he discovered that DNA can transmit information over long distances through fields. According to Dr. Hogg-Robbins this new understanding of genetics will allow us to create more complex organisms – like humans – in future.

Gariaev‘s work has been met with considerable scrutiny by his peers, who contend that its conclusions do not stand up to scientific scrutiny. Yet his research has opened the way to new approaches in genetics that may eventually lead to life-changing technologies like remote healing and cell regeneration; as well as showing that human speech can be translated into electromagnetic signals capable of being sent directly to DNA molecules.

Awards

Gariaev was an esteemed member of both the Russian Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Science in New York. As such, he recognized that studying DNA required more than simply sequencing its nucleotides and codons. Therefore, he assembled an interdisciplinary team composed of Biophysicists, Molecular Biologists, Embryologists, Linguistic Experts to investigate what became known as the Phantom DNA Effect – physical DNA can attract light in vacuum chambers while maintaining holographic memories once separated from its organism as well as codon sequences following similar grammatical rules similar to spoken languages!

His research resulted in publishing visionary scientific articles in various journals and speaking at multiple international conferences, while also leading him to create Wave Genetics or Lingvistiko-wave genetics as a revolutionary approach in 1994. This revolutionary theory asserts that current genetic code models are flawed; instead DNA functions more like a holographic continuum which can be programmed using frequencies to produce life-altering technologies like remote healing or cell regeneration.

Guided Meditation to Reverse Aging

Guided meditation can be an invaluable way to reduce stress and enhance sleep. Furthermore, guided meditation also strengthens the mind-body connection while stimulating self-reflection and encouraging personal growth.

Regular meditation practitioners also experience younger-looking brains thanks to longer telomeres – this effect occurs independent of diet or exercise regimen.

1. Reduce Stress

Guided meditation can help reduce stress levels by emphasizing relaxation, which promotes mental calmness. Meditation techniques such as breathing techniques or visualizing loving and compassionate thoughts toward yourself or others are great ways to slow down and release tension.
