# Programming the Radionics D7212 Panel

The D7212 can monitor up to 48 points of protection. Point programming enables the panel to respond accordingly when open or shorted conditions arise on sensor loops associated with individual points, with options provided in the D7212 Program Entry Guide (74-06915-000).

 Locked reset pins temporarily disable the D7212. A Call For Service appears in command centers and point displays while it remains disabled.

 

## Programming

 After you have installed and configured your system, program the D7212. A RAM II remote programmer can be used to adjust system point assignments, alarm memories and other settings using a RAM II remote programmer – see D5200 Programmer Operation Manual (74-061 76-000). For some parameters changes a panel reset is sometimes required in order for changes to take effect.

This connection helps protect it against electrostatic charges and transient electrical surges, protecting its components from being damaged by electrostatic charges or transient surges.

 The D7212 connects to an RJ31X jack for phone line seizure, as per FCC regulations for using public telephone networks. When used properly, this connection complies with FCC regulations for using them for public telephone networks and can direct alarm messages directly to four separate phone numbers. You may add a D128 Dual Phone Line Switcher module in order to connect and supervise another line; furthermore you may use D1255 Alpha III Command Centers as full system controls with full system annunciations capabilities.

 On the D7212, you can program up to 48 points in eight-point areas, or assign additional off-board modules with additional points to individual areas. Please refer to the Program Entry Guide for more details regarding point programming options.

#### At Power Up or Reset, the On-Board Buzzer Sounds

 The D7212 emits an on-board buzzer when powering up or resetting to confirm that it is functioning normally. At this point, a series of self diagnostic tests of its hardware, software, and program run automatically at power up or reset; taking about 10 seconds. If any tests fail during this test run, a system trouble message appears on command centers if any test fail resulting in system trouble messages displaying instead.

 

#### Wiring D8125 POPEX Modules

 The D8125 modules are powered loop outputs used for connecting POPIT sensor loops to the D7212. They may be wired serially (normally-closed) or parallelly with other POPEX modules; each POPEX module assigns its connected expansion loops a unique point number.

 If the D8125 module is wired in parallel with two other modules, each must have its own POPEX address; otherwise, there could be confusion as to which POPEX module reports back to the panel.

 

## Troubleshooting

 The D7212 panel offers 48 points of protection with multiple programming options to customize its coverage. Each point features its own sensor loop with open and shorted conditions that trigger alarm. If one or more points do not function as expected, check their wiring as too long wire runs may induce noise into adjacent wires, disrupt communication between points and panel, as well as check voltage at sensors terminals of power transformer.

 The D7212 features a red Low Battery LED that flashes whenever there is an issue with its battery. When detected, its load shed relay will disconnect it in order to address it; by powering down or resetting up the programmer or panel this allows reseting to reset this relay and reconnect its batteries.

 Use 18 AWG minimum wire, and keep runs as short as possible to reduce noise and low voltage issues that lead to point open and shorted conditions. Keep phones, sensor loop, and power wires apart while avoiding sharing AC conductors; avoid connecting D8004 transformer Enclosure to same circuit where other equipment exists as foreign grounds may damage D7212 power system.

You can program your D7212 to send reports directly to this display, or add the D128 Dual Phone Line Monitor module and assign two phone lines for monitoring/supervision by the D7212.

 The D7212 features an RJ31X jack for connecting to telephone networks, in compliance with FCC regulations for line seizure in case of fire emergency. You can connect the D128 Dual Phone Line Monitor to this jack in order to monitor both lines for alarms or trouble conditions; additionally, this monitor allows assigning account numbers per area within D7212 so as to arm or disarm each of them through one menu function – please see Programming and Installation Guide (74-0691 5-000) for details.

 

## Line Termination

 The D7212 connects to any telephone network via an RJ31X jack, meeting FCC regulations for line seizure. This gives access to system control and annunciation from any standard phone handset, with system status reporting sent directly into Modem II or BFSK formats for receiving receivers. In addition, this panel comes equipped with an alarm transmission circuit.

 This system can detect open or shorted conditions on its 48 points. Each point can be programmed with various options for handling these conditions, providing flexibility in protection for each installation. Please refer to the D7212 Programming Guide (74-06915-000) for more details on programmable point features.

 To avoid damage to the circuitry and to protect your warranty, do not attempt to perform user repairs on this unit or its accessories. Doing so could void it completely.

Connect the battery’s terminals 1 and 2, with proper earthing requirements met – please refer to Grounding section of this manual for details.

 If using the D7212 for fire or combined fire/burglary systems, be sure to include both a D8004 Transformer Enclosure and D1640 transformer as part of your system. It must be mounted according to local fire and UL regulations.

 Add additional off-board point sensor loops with D8125 POPEX Module, D8128A OctoPOPIT Module or D8129 OctoRelay Modules from your system with ease using these three D7212 modules: POPEX (POPEX-type), OctoPOPIT and OctoRelay modules from D7212. Each should be wired according to its respective instructions included with each. Also included with your panel is a standard telephone handset known as Alpha III Command Center D1255 Alpha III Command Center which you can program the panel to send output signals directly into one or four Alpha III Command Centers from one or four panels within four command centers from one or four panels from your output signals panel output signals output signals by programming each panel output signal output signals being directed out through one or four Alpha III Command Centers D7212. In addition a Dual Phone Line Switcher module may allow the panel to monitor and supervise another phone line from which supervision or monitoring could occur from monitoring/supervising another phone line/module label that bears its FCC registration number/REN for identification purposes when attaching these to modules that require this information printed onto it for identification purposes when attached to it for proper installation/supervision purposes.

 

## Power

 

#### Power Management

 A 16.5 VAC, 40 VA internally fused transformer provides primary AC power for the panel. It carries 1.9 amps of rectified AC power; 1.4 amps is dedicated for powered devices while 500 milliamps is set aside for internal operations. Transient suppressors and spark gaps help safeguard against power surges; connect grounding rod or cold water pipe to Terminal 10 before making connections of any kind.

 The panel connects to the telephone network through an RJ31X jack installed by the phone company. It uses its built-in digital communicator to send reports in Modem II or BFSK formats; when connected to D7212, D5200 programmer also generates SDI trouble reports.

 The D7212 can support up to eight zones, each featuring one or more maintained or momentary closure devices connected to their associated points, which can be armable and disarmable using its menu function. Each zone also has its own account number; D7212’s event log can store up to 500 events and event modifiers; these events can be viewed locally using D1255 Command Center or remotely through D5200 Remote Account Manager II.

 The D7212 connects with the D5200 and its auxiliary devices through its serial port on the left side of its panel, using an RS232 connection.
