In this study, a parallel-convergent mixed methods approach was taken that combined quantitative and qualitative elements. A cross-sectional survey was administered among users of non-invasive stimulation technologies for smoking cessation to collect quantitative data.

This study used a parallel-convergent design which combined quantitative (descriptive cross-sectional) and qualitative components. Qualitative data was collected through semistructured in-depth interviews conducted both within a research setting as well as at participants’ homes. Each interview took anywhere between 30-60 minutes and both types of analyses used were descriptive statistics while content analysis was employed to explore qualitative findings.
Results of qualitative analysis indicated that participants’ primary challenges related to using non-invasive stimulation technologies for smoking cessation included their high cost and fear of relapse. The findings from this study offer insight into both barriers and facilitators for this form of stimulation technology use as well as increasing awareness regarding future savings on cigarettes that come from quitting smoking.
In this study, 25 participants who used non-invasive stimulation technology such as auriculotherapy, electrical and magnetic brain stimulation, bioresonance, or MORA bioresonance therapy to quit smoking were evaluated, such as auriculotherapy, electrical and magnetic brain stimulation or bioresonance. Participants were selected based on motivation and interest in these technologies; snowball sampling was then used to identify additional potential participants by asking initial participants to refer similar characteristics until data saturation was reached. Results demonstrated that MORA bioresonance therapy was most popular among users and had significantly higher success rate when compared with all other cessation methods tested.
